Oh Happy Day! Playing in the Rain

I just love that stinkin’ cute turtle from our Playing in the Rain stamp set, not to mention the cloud stamps and dies. Just add a little color with our Stampin’ Blend alcohol markers and this card really comes to life. I used a blending brush and some of the Azure Afternoon ink to create the blue sky. The flowers are colored with a Daffodil Delight Blend marker.

I started with a Basic White card base and added a layer of Azure Afternoon blue to match the sky. The clouds are stamped in Smoky Slate and the turtle, flowers and greeting in Memento Black ink. I used the Crumb Cake and Old Olive Blends to color the turtle. He is so sweet, just look at that face. I created the grass freehand with Old Olive and Granny Apple Green Blends.

I am not sure what the weather is like in your neighborhood, but our forecast here is calling for clear skies and a high of 90. Looks like this is the perfect card for my neighborhood. Happy Stamping!

God so loved the world -Sunday Wisdom

“God so loved the world that God gave God’s only Son.” – Jn. 3:16

Today’s gospel is a familiar one and yet the message of truth, love, hope and mercy is always comforting.

As John reflects in the gospel, God showed his love for us and his faithfulness by sending us Jesus so that all who believe in Him might have eternal life. God was not trying to trick us. Jesus was not sent to condemn the world but to save it. Jesus through His most merciful and sacred heart continues to call countless people in our world to be a witness of God’s love.

If we encourage one another, trust in the mercy of Christ and live in peace, God will never abandon us, not even in our darkest moments. While we always need to hold fast the truth and remain faithful in prayer, we do so knowing that God is asking us to put aside any differences and bring more love into the world. With all violence and hatred it seems elementary that we would want to foster peace, offer hope and remove all division. But we are human, broken and weak so we must lean on the faithfulness of a God who loves us and longs to be in relationship with us.

God our Father, thank you for sending your Son to save us from ourselves.

Playing in the Rain-Favorite Things Friday!

Here is another card that features our new Azure Afternoon cardstock. I have to say I am really loving this shade of blue. Fun fact, one of my favorite things is a rainy day. Not all of the time like in Seattle, but I love me a good summer thunderstorm, and like the card says, rainy days are better when you share them with someone special!

This is a clean and simple card and it did not take much time at all to create the panel of faux Designer Series Paper. I figured just because the Playing in the Rain DSP is retired doesn’t mean we cannot create our own. I stamped the umbrellas with Memento Black ink and colored them in with a few Stampin’ Blend Combo markers. The greeting is also stamped in Memento black and I used the coordinating dies to cut one umbrella as an extra pop on my greeting. With the Blending Brush and some Azure Afternoon ink, I added a bit of color to my greeting.

Super fun, and simple. I mounted my faux DSP to a layer of Azure Afternoon and then to a layer of Black. Isn’t it amazing how just one layer can tie all the colors together. In this case it just happened to be a Basic Black layer, but it did the trick and soften the card. Have fun creating….Happy Stamping!

Simple And Dainty Flowers

Sometimes the simple things in life are the best. They are not free mind you, but the best. Every once in awhile it is fun to create a tone on tone card using our Basic White cardstock. For today’s card I embossed the front panel of my card with the Fern 3-D embossing folder and then added a layer of Basic White using some of our Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Of course before mounting my second white layer, I stamped the flowers from the Dainty Flower stamp set with Memento Black ink and colored them with Poppy Parade and Old Olive Stampin’ Blends. The greeting is also from this set and is stamped in Memento Black ink. I layered the greeting using Stampin’ Dimensionals as well.

I really love how the tone on tone white makes it super simple to make this card look elegant. Happy Stampin’!

Hope Anchors the Soul!

Sorry it has been a minute since I have posted. Sorry we have been doing a lot of traveling this month with the passing of my mother-in-law, Connie. Spending time in my craft room these past 10 days just was not an option. I do think however that It is so amazing how crafting can be such a source of therapy and healing, at least for me. So I am back and hope to continue posting regularly. Thanks for your patience!

While Connie and I did agree on a lot of things, swimming was not one of them. She was afraid of the water. While she was fine looking at the ocean or watching us swim, the water was just not her thing. So while she would enjoy today’s card, she would remind us all that she does not like the water.

#blessedbycards

Hope really does anchor the soul and I love the new Azure Afternoon color for creating the perfect ocean scene, or sky scene as well. I layered a piece of Crumb Cake on my Azure Afternoon card base and used Crumb Cake ink for the sand and Azure Afternoon for the ocean. The seashells are from Seaside Bay and are stamped with the new Pecan Pie ink. I used Night of Navy for my greeting, which by the way is from the Hope and Prayer stamp set in the annual catalog.

This is a pretty simple card and even if you have not done much blending, this is a good card to practice as I only used the two colors. I find coloring and sponging to be very relaxing, perhaps you will too! Happy Stamping!

Come Holy Spirit, Come-Sunday Wisdom

Today, on Pentecost Sunday, isn’t it comforting to know that as children of God we have the Holy Spirit as our advocate. When we allow the Spirit to move freely in our lives things typically go more smoothly.  Why?  Well for one thing the Holy Spirit dwells within the hearts of all faithful and is constantly working to defend us against evil.  When we are in doubt or unsure of which path to take the Holy Spirit is there to guide us and to be our constant advocate.

I don’t know about you, but for me that is comforting.  Comforter is another name for the Holy Spirit. It is reassuring to know the Holy Spirit is always ready to comfort us in times of sorrow.  But for me, one of the greatest consolations the Holy Spirit offers, is truth. Come Holy Spirit show us the truth of who we are and who we are called to be. The Holy Spirit reminds us we are all called to holiness and that God not only loves us for who we are but, He wants to spend all of eternity with us.  Now that is comforting!

“O Holy Spirit, Soul of my soul, I adore you. Enlighten me, guide me, strengthen me, console me. Tell me what I ought to do, and command me to do it. I promise to submit myself to all that You ask of me, and to accept all that You permit to happen to me. Only let me know Your will. Amen

Nature’s Prints-Best Wishes-Favorite Things Friday!

Today’s card features the new colors in our full line of ink pads, Pecan Pie. It reminds me of our farm in Illinois. Yes, folks you read that correctly I grew up on a farm in the very small town of Merna just outside of Bloomington/Normal Illinois. Who knew! It is quiet, peaceful and small, did I mention small. Seriously there are 100 people if that living in Merna.

We did not have any festivals and although it is small, you will not find any quaint shops, so I doubt if Hallmark will be featuring us anytime soon. There is a very fun little tavern, well that is what my grandpa called it. I think the correct term is Merna Tap. We moved when I was 5 so Merna Tap was not on my list of things to do! LOL

I began with a Basic White card base and added a layer of Pecan Pie. To another layer of Basic White (3 ¾ x 5) I used Pecan Pie ink and stamped off to create the lighter looking wheat. The greeting stamped in Pecan Pie is also from the Nature’s Prints stamp set.

So whether you are a farm or city girl, I hope you enjoy this card and create something beautiful today. Happy Stamping!
