Let it Snow! Fun Fact Friday!

Wow, this week has flown by. Sorry about not posting a Weekly Wednesday video. We had a few family medical issues to deal with this week, but I am back on track and the weather here in St. Louis has gotten significantly colder. If you live in the Chicago area that your weather will match today’s card!

Fun Fact: St. Louis, Missouri receives an average of 15.5-18 inches of snow per winter season. The greatest cumulative snowfall in St. Louis occurred in 1977, when the city received 49.2 inches of snow. However, the average annual snowfall in Chicago, Illinois is 36-37 inches. Chicago experiences a heavier snowstorm about every three years, with over 10 inches of snow falling in 1-3 days.  Now that is great snowman making weather. What’s the weather like in your neck of the woods?

For today’s card I used the One of a Kind snowflake die and cropped 5 snowflakes with Balmy Blue cardstock. I used our liquid glue to add them to a Basic White card panel. I then ran the white pane through the Stampin’ Cut n Emboss Machine using the Snowflake Sky embossing folder. I love that the snowflakes are also embossed.

I then stamped Let it Snow from the Sophisticated Sled set with Balmy Blue ink on a scrap of Basic White cardstock three times. Yes, then I got out my paper snips and fussy cut each greeting and added it to the Basic White panel. I attached it all to a Balmy Blue card base and I was done in less that 10 minutes.

I am really not sure what to call this technique but it is a super cool way to use your die cuts and your embossing folder at the same time. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed. Happy Stamping!

Star of Bethlehem ~ Fun Fact Friday!

Did you know that the story of the Star of Bethlehem appears only in the Book of Matthew. The gospel tells us that a bright star appeared in the eastern sky when Jesus was born, famously seen by a group of wise men. It is in Matthew 2:1–2 where the story begins with the Magi, or wise men from the East, traveling to Jerusalem to ask about the newborn king of the Jews. It is also in Matthew 2:9–11 where the Magi follow the star, which stops over the place where the child Jesus is. The Magi are overjoyed and pay homage to the child.

For today’s card I began with a Basic White card base. I stamped the shepherd from Shepherd’s Care stamp set with Memento Black ink on a scrap of Basic white and fussy cut it and layered it to the card front. I stamped the greeting with Memento Black ink and the star with Night of Navy. If you don’t like to fussy cut, you can simplify this by just stamping the Shepard directly to the card front. I think it would also look good all stamped with Night of Navy as well.

Guess what? There are only 40 days until Christmas!!!! Happy Stamping!

Well it is time again for our Weekly Wednesday create it together video and today I am sharing a fun fold mini purse to hold a single lip balm. This is a super easy project and it is the perfect stocking stuffer. It also works well as a gift for your co-workers, even the men. Everyone needs a little lip balm, right? I am selling these today at a lunchtime craft fair, so wish me luck.

If the video does not load, just click here or the image below.

Project Supplies

  • 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper (DSP)-score at 1-1/4 and 4-3/4″ rotate 1/4 turn, score 2 1/2 & 3-1/2″
  • 2 x 4 strip of coordinating DSP or cardstock-score 1-1/2″
  • Scoring Tool
  • Scraps of coordinating cardstock or DSP-closure and magnet coverings
  • Mini magnets
  • Tag Topper Punch
