Sweet Cupcakes-Favorite Things Friday

Did you know?

  • The cupcake evolved in the United States in the 19th century.
  • According to Google, “cupcake recipes” are the fastest growing recipe search.
  • Cupcakes were finally decorated with frosting in the 1920’s. Cupcakes were frosted in either Chocolate or Vanilla Frosting.
  • In 1947 cupcakes were re-designed and got the look they have today, thanks to D.R. “Doc” Rice.
  • In New York City cupcake shops like Magnolia Bakery gained publicity in their appearances on popular television shows.
  • In 2005, the first nothing but cupcakes bakery in the world was opened called Sprinkles Cupcakes
  • There are about 400 cupcake bakeries in the United States.
  • In the US, approximately, 770,000,000 cupcakes are consumed per year.

Cupcakes are pretty sweet, but I have to admit I would rather have an homemade Christmas sugar cookie. Perhaps cut out sugar cookies are my favorite because they are a once a year treat and cupcakes are more of a year round treat. Either way, today’s card features the sweet cupcakes from the Measure of Love stamp set featured on page 32 in the annual catalog.

  1. Cute!
I wonder if Doc Rice is a relative of mine?
How do you decorate your cutout sugar cookies?

    1. Hahaha!!!!! I am sure he is! I make a plain white Royal Icing and as needed. I should probably invest in some pastry bags, but I just use good old fashion zip lock bags.
