Thankful for Flowers-Fun Fact Friday

Hey all today I am sharing a card with you that I created using the Layers of Beauty Bundle. The masks in this bundle make it super simple to add shading and look like a real artist. Shhhh don’t tell anyone that I am so very far from being that! But you will love this bundle because it is so super simple and look at the amazing results.

I started with a Blueberry Bushel card base and the next layer is one of my “Bubble Up” backgrounds. I showed this technique several weeks ago and I am still enjoying creating these soft backgrounds for a little “wow” on my cards. Click here if you missed that tutorial. The thanks is from Simply Said and along with the masks from the bundle, I used a blending brush with Balmy Blue and Blueberry Bushel to create my flowers.

Fun Fact

Did you know that bubbles for kids have been around for centuries! Depictions of bubble blowing, dated to around 1733, show children using pipes to blow bubbles, according to the Bubble Blower Museum website. The article goes on to mention that pipes and, later, wands were the earliest mass produced bubble blowers, with the earliest patents dating to the 1920s.

I remember doing bubbles with wands in my grandma’s backyard. Such fun and who knew that I would never grow up and am now using bubbles in my crafting! I encourage you to be a kid again and give this fun technique a try. I promise you will not be disappointed. Happy Stamping!

Fun Fact Friday ~ Birthday in the Grove

Did you know that there are over 60 different species of deer worldwide. That’s a lot right? And deer are present on all continents except Antarctica. They can live in a range of habitats, from mountainous areas to warm and wet rainforests. And here I just thought they loved the forest like in my card today. Just hanging out in the grove.

This background and cute deer are from the Grove dies, which also has a matching stamp set, Grassy Grove. I just thought it would be fun to use the dies and create a silhouette outline for my forest seen. I created my forest background by using a Blending Brush, some Granny Apple Green ink for the grassy part and some Highland Heather for the nightfall.

I love the large forest die in this set and I used Basic Black cardstock to create a silhouette effect, making a perfect addition to enhance my background. This is actually a birthday card for a dear friend, but it would also make a great thinking of you card.

Check out these dies and the coordinating stamp set!

Happy Stamping!

Fun With Triangles ~ Weekly Wed. #25

Happy Wednesday. It is time again to create a card together and today we are having fun with triangles. Now I was never big on geometry but working with these triangles, cardstock and designer series paper was fun. If only I would have been able to paper craft for geometry in high school. I might have enjoyed my math classes more. I hope you enjoy today’s video!

Now like I said geometry was not my thing and to be honest I am not really big on numbers but trust me this design is super simple. All you need is a 3 x 4 piece of designer series paper and a 3-1/4 x 4-1/4 piece of coordinating cardstock. Cut both pieces on the diagonal, layer them up and tada, you have a fun triangle card.

My card base is Crumb Cake and my border pieces are Early Espresso. I also stamped the greeting from Sweetly Scripted (an online exclusive) in Early Espresso ink. You can have fun creating with different designer series patterns and colored cardstock like in the example below.

In my second cards I used the Flowering Zinnias designer series paper (also an online exclusive), a Melon Mambo card base, added a 4 x 5 1/4 Basic White panel and Blackberry Bliss accent triangles. I stamped my greeting with Blackberry Bliss ink and wow, a totally different card look. Happy Stamping!

Layers of Beauty ~ Make It Monday #170

Layering is a technique used to add dimension and texture to our creations. By combining different papers, textures, and embellishments, layering can guide a viewer’s eye by creating visual cues that strategically highlight focal points. But what if you tried layering with different masking templates like in our Layers of Beauty Bundle. This simple layer helps to add color detail in all the right places.

https://youtu.be/WSP__a_WnJc

While this is not a 5 minute card technique, it really does not take long to add the differently layers to your floral image. It does take a bit of patience to let the template do all the work, I am sure you will not be disappointed, as creating these layers is simple and if you take the time to add each layer I am sure you will be amazed with the artistic result. Happy Stamping!

Fun Fact Friday ~ Dry Embossing!

Did you know that dry embossing isn’t a new arts and crafts technique? It first appeared in the15th century as personalized stationery. It was created by heating stamping plates and was seen as a high-quality work from a professional. It was expensive and limited, so of course everyone wanted it. Right?

As time went on printing services were improved and turned this embossing into an art making it more affordable for people like us. Fast forward and today we have embossing folders for a little as $10 dollars.  All you need is your folder, some cardstock and a Stampin’ Cut n Emboss or Big Shot machine. And that is exactly how I created today’s card.

I added a little twist to my embossed card panel by using a sponge dauber and some white craft ink. After you dry emboss your image, on the raised side, gently add a touch of white ink to any of the images you want to stand out. I also used white craft ink to stamp my greeting. I think next time I will use some white embossing powder and a heat gun to make it stand out more….next time. LOL Happy Stamping!
