Blending Brush Color Technique

Today’s card is all about using the Blending Brushes to create a soft background of color. While my colors are actually quite bright and bold, Poppy Parade and Granny Apple Green, you can use the blending brushes to soften to color. It is amazing how elegant this card turned out. Just remember the key for creating a beautiful soft background is really all about a light touch.

I began with a 3-3/4 x 5 piece of Basic White cardstock and used my blending brushes along with some Poppy Parade and Granny Apple Green ink to create my background of color. I find a good trick when using the blending brushes is to start off my cardstock and use a light touch. You can always add more color, but you can’t take it away. If you are new to blending I suggest practicing a few times so that you can get the right feel for what is too dark.

My card is Poppy Parade and my accent layer is Granny Apple Green. I just layered these two colors and added a small strip of cardstock across the width of my white panel and added the greeting.

I stamped the large floral from Layers of Beauty on my newly created background using Memento Black ink. The Happy Anniversary greeting is from Layering Beauty and is also stamped with Memento Black ink. I used one of the dies from the Unbounded Love Bundle with my Stampin’ Cut n Emboss machine to crop the greeting. Add a little bling to match the colors of your card and that is it.

I hope you have fun experimenting with the Blending Brushes to create some fun backgrounds for your next card creation. Happy Stamping!

A Special Birthday ~ Fun Fact Friday

When I was in seventh grade I would dream of my house and the perfect husband. I imagined having 6 kids and a 2-car garage. Well, fast forward a few years-LOL-and I don’t have 6 kids or a 2 car garage, but hey I do have the perfect husband and two amazing kids. Blessed I am and today I am celebrating the birthday of my daughter. Who knew I would be old enough to have adult children.

Watching my daughter grow up into the beautiful, smart, thoughtful, and caring person she is today has been a real joy. God has blessed me beyond my wildest imagination and having an adult relationship with my daughter has been the greatest gift of all. Happy Birthday sweetheart, I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living your mommy I’ll be.

Senior Fun ~Fun Facts Friday

Did you know that 80 is the new 65? While I am not sure if that is a fact, it seems to be thing. Maybe it is because a lot of the Baby Boomers are turning 65! LOL It is that time again in the month when I go to visit my senior friends at Mother of Good Counsel Home.

Seriously though, did you know that many senior living communities can feel like neighborhood and living in senior living communities can prevent social isolation. That’s a good thing! Don’t worry about taking your beloved dog or cat because many of the communities are pet friendly. If that is not great enough many seniors can keep their independence and go on scheduled outing where transportation is provided. It’s like having your own chauffer. They even have fun classes like card-making. And here are the cards we are making today.

Card #1

Fun and Bright Colors -Lemon Lime Twist and Peach Pie

Use your favorite designer series patterned paper to create this card. I cut three strips that measure 3-3/4 x 1-1/2 and layered them on a 4 x 5-1/4 panel of Peach Pie. The greeting is from Sweetly Scripted and stamped on a strip of white-1 x 5 1/2.

Card #2

Soft and Subtle Retired Wisteria Wonder-try Highland Heather!

I just love the look of a monochromatic card, don’t you. The flower in this image is from a retired set, Calming Camellia and I also used some Wisteria Wonder ink and retired designer series paper. You can use any colors and patterns that you have on hand. I started with a Basic White card, add a 4 x 5-1/4 panel of Wisteria Wonder. The Basic White panel or the flower and greeting measures 2-3/4 x 4 and the patterned paper measures 3 x 4.

Card #3

Elegant Flower-Retired Rococo Rose and Pistachio Pudding

For my final card I again began with a Basic White card and added a 4×5-1/4 layer of Rococo Rose. I stamped the flower in Rococo and the leaves with Pistachio Pudding ink, both retired on a 3 x 5 Basic White panel. Remember I tend to use my retired stash for my senior friends.

I hope you enjoy today’s cards, I am sure my senior friends will be thrilled. They are a special group and we have a lot of fun crafting together. If you know someone who is not able to get out much then I encourage you to send them a hand-stamped hug! Happy Stamping!

Thankful for Flowers-Fun Fact Friday

Hey all today I am sharing a card with you that I created using the Layers of Beauty Bundle. The masks in this bundle make it super simple to add shading and look like a real artist. Shhhh don’t tell anyone that I am so very far from being that! But you will love this bundle because it is so super simple and look at the amazing results.

I started with a Blueberry Bushel card base and the next layer is one of my “Bubble Up” backgrounds. I showed this technique several weeks ago and I am still enjoying creating these soft backgrounds for a little “wow” on my cards. Click here if you missed that tutorial. The thanks is from Simply Said and along with the masks from the bundle, I used a blending brush with Balmy Blue and Blueberry Bushel to create my flowers.

Fun Fact

Did you know that bubbles for kids have been around for centuries! Depictions of bubble blowing, dated to around 1733, show children using pipes to blow bubbles, according to the Bubble Blower Museum website. The article goes on to mention that pipes and, later, wands were the earliest mass produced bubble blowers, with the earliest patents dating to the 1920s.

I remember doing bubbles with wands in my grandma’s backyard. Such fun and who knew that I would never grow up and am now using bubbles in my crafting! I encourage you to be a kid again and give this fun technique a try. I promise you will not be disappointed. Happy Stamping!
