Let it Snow! Fun Fact Friday!

Wow, this week has flown by. Sorry about not posting a Weekly Wednesday video. We had a few family medical issues to deal with this week, but I am back on track and the weather here in St. Louis has gotten significantly colder. If you live in the Chicago area that your weather will match today’s card!

Fun Fact: St. Louis, Missouri receives an average of 15.5-18 inches of snow per winter season. The greatest cumulative snowfall in St. Louis occurred in 1977, when the city received 49.2 inches of snow. However, the average annual snowfall in Chicago, Illinois is 36-37 inches. Chicago experiences a heavier snowstorm about every three years, with over 10 inches of snow falling in 1-3 days.  Now that is great snowman making weather. What’s the weather like in your neck of the woods?

For today’s card I used the One of a Kind snowflake die and cropped 5 snowflakes with Balmy Blue cardstock. I used our liquid glue to add them to a Basic White card panel. I then ran the white pane through the Stampin’ Cut n Emboss Machine using the Snowflake Sky embossing folder. I love that the snowflakes are also embossed.

I then stamped Let it Snow from the Sophisticated Sled set with Balmy Blue ink on a scrap of Basic White cardstock three times. Yes, then I got out my paper snips and fussy cut each greeting and added it to the Basic White panel. I attached it all to a Balmy Blue card base and I was done in less that 10 minutes.

I am really not sure what to call this technique but it is a super cool way to use your die cuts and your embossing folder at the same time. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed. Happy Stamping!

Star of Bethlehem ~ Fun Fact Friday!

Did you know that the story of the Star of Bethlehem appears only in the Book of Matthew. The gospel tells us that a bright star appeared in the eastern sky when Jesus was born, famously seen by a group of wise men. It is in Matthew 2:1–2 where the story begins with the Magi, or wise men from the East, traveling to Jerusalem to ask about the newborn king of the Jews. It is also in Matthew 2:9–11 where the Magi follow the star, which stops over the place where the child Jesus is. The Magi are overjoyed and pay homage to the child.

For today’s card I began with a Basic White card base. I stamped the shepherd from Shepherd’s Care stamp set with Memento Black ink on a scrap of Basic white and fussy cut it and layered it to the card front. I stamped the greeting with Memento Black ink and the star with Night of Navy. If you don’t like to fussy cut, you can simplify this by just stamping the Shepard directly to the card front. I think it would also look good all stamped with Night of Navy as well.

Guess what? There are only 40 days until Christmas!!!! Happy Stamping!

Fun Fact Friday!

Fun Fact: Years ago I was a second grade teacher and today I am going back into the classroom to sub for my niece, Shelby. She is on an ACTS Retreat this weekend. If you have been on an ACTS Retreat, please pray for her as she mentors others closer to Christ. I guess this was not really a fun fact, more of a personal fun fact, but hey at least it is Friday.

Since I am going to be with little people today, I thought my deer card looks like a mom and dad deer watching out for their young one. Yes, that might be a stretch, but it’s possible. I have two cards, the first is a very clean and simple and the second is the same cards, stepped up with some sponging, bling, and a die cut greeting.

I used a Pool Party card base and added a layer of Pecan Pie. The deer are stamped with Pecan Pie and this card came together very quickly, like I said, very clean and simple. This set is Graceful Deer and is in the annual catalog and online.

My second card has the same layering and stamping, with a bit more to step it up! I added some Pool Party sponging for the sky and some Pecan Pie sponging for the ground. I colored the two little birdies with a Real Red blend and added a simple greeting and die from Unbounded Love.

I hope you enjoyed today’s cards. They are perfect for those men in your life who love to hunt! So whether you choose to go simple or step it up, happy stamping!

  • Liquid Glue or Tear and Tape
  • Greetings of the Season Stamp Set

Free Stamp~Fun Fact Friday!

Sorry my title might be a little misleading, no Stampin’ Up! is not giving away a free stamp, I wish. The “Free Stamp” is actually a sculpture in Cleveland, Ohio that weighs about 35 tons and is considered the largest stamp in the world. Try taking that one to your next crop or stamping event. LOL

Oldenburg is on record as saying that “free,” references the emancipation of American slaves during and after the Civil War—a plausible explanation given the piece’s planned proximity to the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument. Who knew? If you are ever in Cleveland, Ohio, it might be a good place to visit.

Today’s card was created using the Wildly Wheat designer series paper and the Unbounded Love Bundle. If you have not had a chance to check out this bundle, it is amazing.

I started with a Blackberry Bliss card base and added a 4 x 5 1/4 layer of Wildly Wheat DSP to the card front. I then added a 1 x 4′ strip of Boho Blossom to the card front. On both sides of the Boho Blossom I attached a 1/4 x 4″ strip of Blackberry Bliss cardstock. The greeting is from Unbounded Love and stamped with Blackberry Bliss ink. I also used the dies from this bundle to crop the greeting and the accent piece. Add a piece of Basic White cardstock to the inside and decorate as desired.

I cannot believe that it is already November. Time to start brewing up some holiday crafting ideas. Stop back next week for some holiday crafting inspiration. Happy Stamping!
